More Than ATTIC

I was thinking about the reason that I started this blog in the first place. To me it wasn't just about reading good books, but about sharing my love of books with others. Well now, stage 2 is happening. Check out this new blog and follow us from the beginning!

Goldie!

Sister #2's future sister-in-law has always been an inspiration to me. She is a very strong woman with a wonderful story. I love listening to her and hearing her thoughts on life. One time when she was going through a hard time I sent her a copy of a book I love by Goldie Hawn, A Lotus Grows in the Mud.

I went to visit her and her husband and beautiful new baby daughter and she told me that Goldie has a new book out! I just looked it up and it's called 10 Mindful Minutes:
Giving Our Children--and Ourselves--the Social and Emotional Skills to Reduce Stress and Anxiety for Healthier, Happy Lives. What do you think I think about this? I can't wait! I'm ordering my copy right now!

I found it (and the picture below) on Amazon! Eeek - I can't wait.

Homesick

I just got home and I'm homesick. I had the best weekend with Sister #2. After work Friday I drove straight to her house. Dave and her fiance left to go hunting (for pheasants?) in Western Kansas. They have the best time on these weekends and Sister #2 and I use these as little getaways to drink wine, let our doggies play together, and just catch up. And that's what we did. It was wonderful but it always makes me so sad when I come home to my house and she's not here and David's still gone. I know, it's kinda pathetic, but it's true.

Last night we made a wonderful dinner that I can't wait to make again.

These look a little funny, but they are popover type things ( I guess I dont know the name) that are filled with shredded sweet potatoes, spinach, onions, and cheese. They are wonderful and I can't wait to make them again....as soon as my husband comes home!

Decisions

“After comprehensive contract negotiations, Missouri Health Connection (MHC) and Cerner Corporation (Cerner) are ending our talks, and Cerner will not serve as the technical service provider for Missouri’s statewide health information network. Both MHC and Cerner worked diligently to come to an agreement, but a deal could not be reached. MHC is moving forward immediately with alternative plans to connect all of Missouri’s health care providers and allow for the secure exchange of clinical data in order to improve patient care and public health for all Missourians...”

Maybe this means nothing to you, but what it means to me is that had I not made this scary move to my new position, had I let myself stay put and comfortable, today, after lunch, I would have found myself jobless.

What this means to me when my what-would-have-been boss comes over and tells me that the contract was not executed is that I somehow, through my fears, made the right decision.

I have found myself saying a lot lately how you have to pray and pray and then after that, you have to listen to what God is telling you. Even if it doesn't seem to make sense. And I did. And I'm going to keep doing just that.

Two Things...

I just saw one of my favorite celebs on TV (yes, it was on The Soup, but no, he was not making fun of her) and it got me excited to re-read her book. I used to love reading Goldie Hawn's book, A Lotus Grows in the Mud. It is full of inspirational ideas and positive thinking. I just realized I haven't read it for a few years and I am going to re-read it this month. It's just a quick, fun read. I will post some of my favorite quotes.

And I also saw while watching TV (told ya I watch a lot on Wednesdays) a preview for the Stephanie Plum movie, One For the Money. I loved reading this silly series about the clumsy, witty, woman bounty hunter by Janet Evanovich. It's so fun. If you haven't read this series yet you should pick them up and read them before the movie. I have read about 20 of them, and 18 of them were in one summer. There are 18 in the series and a few holiday ones. I can't wait for the movie even though I wish Sandra Bullock would have been Stephanie instead of  Katherine Heigl, but she will be great I'm sure.
